Steelers coach Mike Tomlin weighs in on a number of issues heading into his team’s game this weekend.
On whether cornerback Ike Taylor may be matched up against Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, who has 21 receptions for 323 yards:
“There’s no maybe about that. Why hold that secret? … He’s always game for those challenges. He and I usually have funny exchanges early in the week where he comes and asks for those premium matchups. The players that want to be great at that position, that’s the mentality that they have. He didn’t wait until Wednesday to ask about that matchup this week.”
On using backup center Doug Legursky at fullback in short yardage on Rashard Mendenhall’s touchdown run against the Chargers:
“When you’re running short on bodies like we are, you look around and see who’s available. Legursky’s always one of those guys that’s around. Availability is a good ability.”
On whether Legursky showed any running ability in practice:
“No. He wants to contribute any way he can contribute. We gave him a shot at it, and he delivered for us.”
On whether he watched Ben Roethlisberger as guest host of World Wrestling Entertainment’s Monday Night Raw and if there is any concern that the Steelers quarterback would quit his day job:
“I don’t think he’s got to worry about that. We don’t watch wrestling in my household. I’ve got little kids, man. They might try that on me.”
