James Harrison gives Obama the bird

When the Super Bowl XLIII champion Pittsburgh Steelers make their trip to the White House Thursday, one of the players largely responsible for their victory over the Arizona Cardinals says he won’t be attending.
Linebacker James Harrison — who made Super Bowl history with a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown — said he’ll pass on the invite from President Barack Obama.
“This is how I feel — if you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don’t win the Super Bowl. As far as I’m concerned, he would’ve invited Arizona if they had won,” said Harrison.
Ok so whats the big deal? Well the backlash he is receiving is mostly negative and many in the press see these actions as him being a fool. Well I see the backlash from the press as the foolish behavior. It is based on a slow day of news out of the NFL, I guess. I mean what, no new Brett Favre info to fabricate?
There is no news here. Just because Harrison is now a household name, the press consider him open game. Where was this press a few years back when ‘Silverback’ told George W. the same exact thing and skipped that White house visit as well? I mean come on it’s not that big a deal. So the man is true to his virtues whats the problem?
I personally commend Harrison for standing up for his convictions. He is a man who does not allow all the hoopla to control his actions. As for those slinging mud and name calling, too bad they don’t show some of the same convictions and stand up for their own believes. James Harrison may not be the poster boy everyone expects him to be, but at least he is not afraid to speak his mind and be his own man.

Seems to me that Harrison is a no-nonsense kind of guy and refuses to kiss anyone’s butt..that includes the President (black/white, Republican or Democrat). I think Harrison doesn’t like to cow-tow to anyone and to glad hand the Prez would be doing just that. Harrison said he would go to Ireland if Rooney asked him…why, cuz Dan has a relationship with him and valued him enough as a player to give him a nice contract extension. James appears to be fiercely independent, loyal to his friends and aloof to those he doen’t know personally. I say good for you James, we appreciate the fierce person you are on the field and respect your desire to follow the beat of your own drum in private.
I am all for Harrison being his own man. The press he has gotten is just plain stupid. Lets here more quality NFL stories and less bad boy ones.
I support James Harrison’s decision 100%! He’s a man that follows his own path, despite what pressure the bias media may bestow upon him.
In many ways he represents us all, as he not afraid to take a step in a different direction, a direction that many including myself, believe its a step of freedom.
A freedom that our press should be embrassing, rather that condeming.
WTG James!
