Cleveland Cribbs ends Steelers Play Off Hopes

Let me get this off my chest, “WHAT THE FUCK!!!”
Ok with that said its time to talk Steelers football and the loss to the mighty Cleveland Cribbs. Thats right the lack luster performance verse the Browns, hell for most of the season, allowed one player to change the outcome of the game. Sure the Browns defense played inspired football, but any team with a decent OC could have protected Ben from those 8 sacks. Too bad the Steelers do not have a quality OC.
The entire team is too blamn in this one, not the missing link, Troy Polamalu being hurt, not a bad OL, the entire squad is at fault. Wait I will take that back, both LaMarr Woodley and Ryan Clark played great, the rest of the team, well….
I can’t remember the last time I watched a game that a team just did not seem to have any fire or passion. This is a first for me. Even in the 80’s when the Steelers were average at best they played with emotion. Against the Browns, they did not seem to care. It was hard to watch. Missed tackles, confused defenders an OL watching blitzers run by and an offensive co-ordinater doing absolutly nothing to adjust to the heat.
What went wrong you ask? Everything.
Bruce Arians has laid some nice size eggs in the past but this game had to be his biggest. If this game does not get him fired come seasons end, nothing will. How does he even try to justify calling the exact same run plays the entire game. How does he justify not protecting his 100 million dollar QB on third down. The answer is, he can’t.
Even a high school OC could have adjusted to stop the pass rush. Hell I could have. How, well easy. First you use blockers in the backfield, get the hell out of 5 WR sets and give Ben some help with an extra blocker. Second you mix up your run plays so your offense is not consistantly in 3rd and 8’s. Third you call on a FB and use plays that have one on the field.
I have been known to complain about BA’s play calling in the past but this game had to be the most predictable he has ever called. 90% of the runs where in twin WR sets and two TE’s with one of the WR’s going into motion. I knew it, the announcers knew it and so did Rob Ryan and the Browns defense.
Then when passing he set the team up for failure by not giving the OL help against the extra man blitzing. It’s called adjusting to what the defense is doing and BA seemed as confused and lost as his OL did. You as fans want to blamn the coach go for it, but blamn the ones who consistantly suck it up. The OC, O-line and special teams coaches. I will only blamn Tomlin if he does nothing to change it in the off season.
As a fan I want to say screw it the season is over. But thats not what we do in Steelers country. Win or lose us Steelers fan love our team and back them all the way. So I say to those who want to give up, great go for it, act like a Browns fans. But I will back my team all the way until the fat lady sings.
Though the season may be over as far os the play offs go, the Steelers still have a few games left to play and I can only hope the stadium will stay full and the fans will show the team we love them no matter what. Here we go Pittsburgh, Here we go…..
